
Department of English
Students of English learn to read accurately, write clearly, and think analytically in the department’s three majors, seven minors, and three graduate programs. The department is also home to four journals and collaborates on three digital research projects.
Department of History
The History department offers B.A. and B.A./M.A. Accelerated Undergraduate-Graduate programs, as well as five minors. A history degree provides students with critical “employability skills” needed to excel in today’s market, including research and writing skills, analytical skills, communication skills, and being goal-focused. The History department is home to Africana Studies, American Studies, Florida Studies, Judaic Studies and Middle Eastern Studies.
Department of Modern Languages and Literatures
Whether you wish to fulfill a language requirement, gain valuable language skills, or position yourself in a more marketable career arena the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures has a program to help you reach your communication goals. The department also offers study abroad programs and many interdisciplinary courses. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is home to Latin American Studies.
Department of Philosophy
The Philosophy department houses undergraduate programs and graduate certificates in Philosophy, Humanities & Cultural Studies, Religion & Cultural Studies, and Cognitive Sciences, suited to a variety of professional and academic goals including careers in teaching, law, publishing, non-profit management, information and other technologies, and a broad range of knowledge in diverse fields.
Department of Writing and Rhetoric
Students in the Writing and Rhetoric undergraduate and graduate programs receive a comprehensive education that enables them to communicate effectively, persuasively, and ethically across a range of civic, professional, and educational contexts. The department hosts three Writing Outreach programs: Writing Across the Curriculum, University Writing Center, and First Year Writing Program.
