TESOL is an exciting field with many possibilities for work overseas, in community colleges, Intensive English Programs, private language schools and public schools.

We strive to offer our students a strong foundation in theory with numerous opportunities for work in the field.

Several TESOL and TEFL courses have service-learning components. In addition, UCF offers study abroad opportunities with a focus on service learning. UCF has local and international practicum experiences in Spain, Taiwan, and Central America.

Because UCF offers a Ph.D. in Education with a specialty in TESOL in collaboration with the College of Education, students can begin their TESOL career at the undergraduate level and continue to a terminal degree at the doctoral level, all at UCF. We also offer an undergraduate TEFL Certificate, a graduate TEFL Certificate, and are part of the Florida ESOL Endorsement.

Our professors have diverse research interests and thrive on working with students to develop their professionalism in the field. Current research trends in the department include vocabulary, assessment, community engagement, Russian ESOL, and sociolinguistics.
