Biography
Laurie A. Pinkert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric and Director of Writing Across the Curriculum in the Center for Writing Excellence at the University of Central Florida. She also currently coordinates an interdisciplinary fellowship-writing initiative that is supported by the College of Graduate Studies. She joined the faculty at UCF after working as an Assistant Professor of Composition and Rhetoric and the Writing Program Director at Humboldt State University (Arcata, CA).
Dr. Pinkert's research aims to better understand relationships between writing and identity and to develop approaches to writing program design, development, and administration that can support writerly identity development. This had led to lines of inquiry: one that investigates disciplinarity, identity, and expertise within the field of Rhetoric/Composition/Writing Studies and one that examines the ways that writing impacts and evidences disciplinary enculturation for writers across disciplines.
Her ongoing research includes collaboration as a co-investigator on
the
~$600,000 National Science Foundation funded study “Institutional Transformation:
Examining the Intersections of Moral Foundations and Ethical Frameworks.” This project aims to identifying the roles that individual foundations and collective frameworks play within disciplinary
enculturation in order to develop effective strategies for increasing/retaining diverse perspectives across
fields and to preparing writers within or across disciplines.
