One of the purposes of the LCT program is to prepare students for doctoral study if that is their choice. However, a more important aspect of the program is helping students to make a more intelligent and informed choice than they would be able to do as undergraduates. To this end, the program includes such elements as the first-year review, the symposium, and an emphasis on professionalization through the Capstone course.
We do not envision all or even most of our students entering a Ph.D. program.
Nonetheless, the majority of our students are at least interested in the prospect, and it thus contingent on our program to provide something resembling the initial stages of a doctoral program. We also strive to introduce students to other options for post-MA employment, including teaching in the Florida state college system.
