UCF’s Literary Arts Partnership

Literary Arts Partnership is a program that uses the literary arts to improve the learning attitude, ability, and self-sufficiency of vulnerable youth and adults in our community. At the same time, this project provides an opportunity for college students to apply their knowledge in the “real world” and builds a bridge between their academic world and the greater community, potentially leading them to careers and long-term commitment in community service.


The Cypress Dome Society

The Cypress Dome Society is a university approved student organization dedicated to fostering the writing and literary community at UCF and in the Central Florida area. CDS creates this sense of community through publication of The Cypress Dome literary magazine; and presenting two reading series: Writers in the Sun, which brings nationally acclaimed authors to UCF, and the Student-Faculty Reading Series, which provides a place for students and faculty to share their work.


Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society, has established chapters on campuses of over three hundred colleges and universities throughout the United States and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. The Zeta Xi Chapter was formed in 1980 at the University of Central Florida. The purpose of Sigma Tau Delta is to encourage the writing, appreciation, and criticism of literature and to convey distinction upon students, faculty members, and professional writers who have achieved recognition in the literature of the English language.


The Future Technical Communicators Student Organization

This organization provides technical communicators at UCF with helpful information about technical writing and upcoming technical writing workshops. FTC members are given the opportunity to attend both FTC and STC meetings as well as become involved in the new mentoring program. Saturday workshops are held by current technical writing students and FTC members who help attendees become more familiar with the industries essential computer applications and technical writing procedures. Finally, the Web site provides information about the Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship Fund as well as information about the local and national STC organization. J.D. Applen serves as faculty advisor to FTC.


Writers Uknighted

Writers Uknighted is a network of creative student writers that strive to enhance their writing skills in a productive and positive atmosphere. This club provides a space for student writers to come together and hone in on their creative skills. Whether you write creative fiction/non-fiction, poetry, scripts, plays, etc. this club is for you!


Graduate Writer’s Association

The Graduate Writers’ Association (GWA) helps students successfully transition from the university into the greater literary field by creating and participating in networking and professional development opportunities and sharing knowledge of existing literary organizations.


PARCELS: MFAs in Progress Reading Series

Parcels: MFAs in Progress is a monthly reading series organized by current UCF graduate students pursuing MFA degrees in Creative Writing. The series aims to share the talents of the current UCF MFA students with the Orlando community.

Parcels is hosted on the second Sunday of various urban locations. Readings begin at 7 p.m. and run for about two hours with breaks for drinks, socializing, and games. They are free and open to anyone interested in hearing fresh, contemporary poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
