Karina
Lissette Cespedes, Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Humanities and Cultural Studies. Her
research interests include Cuban Studies, Cuban tourism, food security, and art on the island. Most recently, Karina published on the afterlife of Cuban slavery while writing her book on Cuban food insecurity, “Hunger in
Havana,” under contract with Vanderbilt University Press. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles and book chapters, some appearing in the Journal
for Social Work Education, and the collections A Window
into Cuban and Cuban American Studies, Technofuturos..., and This Bridge We Call
Home...
Research Interests
Research areas include Cuban Studies, the afterlife of Cuban slavery, contemporary food insecurity, Cuban tourism, art and affective economies.
