“I’m writing my thesis on Adam Lambert’s rhetorical strategies in his American Idol performances, and I’m coming up with my own rhetorical theory about camp style, counterculture, and mainstream culture. No matter how ‘out there’ my ideas have been, my professors at UCF have encouraged me to explore the connections between my own pop culture interests and rhetorical theories.”
– Isabelle Lanthier, ’19

“One of the things I love about being part of the faculty at UCF’s writing and rhetoric program is the opportunity to teach courses and serve in committees that are related to my research interests. When I joined the program, I thought it was like many other programs in the country that pay lip service to valuing language diversity only at the theoretical but not on practical level. I was pleasantly surprised by not only being asked to teach courses related to language diversity, but to also see faculty and graduate students working actively and collaboratively to consider how this scholarship can inform our curriculum.”
