The Stephen B. Levensohn H.A.R.R.I.E.T. Humanitarian Award is presented to students majoring in Humanities and Cultural Studies, Philosophy, or Religion and Cultural Studies.
Winners receive a $500 award. Students will be selected based on their work in the community and helping others.
In order to apply, students must submit:
- a 1-2 page letter of application in which they explain how they exemplify a humanitarian and their concern with or promotion of human welfare
- a résumé with 1-3 references (including telephone numbers) for individuals who can speak to the student’s humanitarian efforts
- a copy of the student’s myKnightAudit

About Stephen B. Levensohn
Stephen B. Levensohn, a professor of Philosophy, Religion and Humanities, was a faculty a member for thirty-five years, joining UCF in 1969 when it was known as Florida Technological University.
Levensohn was the original Director of Religious Studies at UCF. He also set up the Philosophy Practicum, a program that sent students to mentor at-risk youths in the Winter Park Housing Authority. That program grew to include similar organizations in Volusia and Brevard counties.
Together with his wife, Kate, he also delighted local radio listeners as the gravelly voiced Harriet of Aunt Harriet’s All Night Diner and Short Order and Practical Wisdom.
