Carolina Salazar is a Spanish Instructor at the University of Central Florida. Born and raised in Colombia, Salazar moved to Orlando, Florida in 2006. She has been working for the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at UCF for the last five years. Her teaching experience includes lower division courses, in both beginner and intermediate levels, in face-to-face, mixed mode, and online modalities.

Salazar received her Master of Arts in Spanish from UCF in Spring 2018. Before pursuing a career in teaching, Salazar worked for more than ten years as a journalist. Her area of specialization was in print journalism in Spanish. She covered the Hispanic community for El Sentinel, the Spanish-language publication of the Orlando Sentinel, and CENTRO Tampa, the Spanish-language publication of the Tampa Bay Times. During her journalism career, Salazar received several awards by the Florida Society of News Editors including four first places in the Spanish-Language Division for her articles related to the Hispanic community in Central Florida.

In 2005, Salazar received a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Journalism from Universidad Católica de Pereira in Colombia. Her journalism experience started in her native country where she worked as a freelancer for El Tiempo newspaper. Once Salazar moved to Orlando, Florida, she studied English as a Second Language at UCF. On several occasions, Salazar has expressed her immense appreciation and gratitude for UCF for becoming part of her history as a student and now as a professional.

Salazar is currently one of the faculty leaders for the UCF Barcelona Center. Salazar will be teaching Elementary Spanish Language and Civilization II (SPN1121) for the third time in Barcelona in Summer 2025.
