In spring 2026, UCF’s VLP is looking for undergraduate and graduate students interested in serving as interns for course credit. The National Cemetery Administration’s (NCA) Veterans Legacy Program (VLP) is a Department of Veterans Affairs-funded project that creates innovative pedagogical tools for K-12 students who learn via the stories and experiences of Veterans. Our collaborative team of university professors, staff, students, and K-12 educators use cutting-edge technologies to help students understand local and international history through the lives of Veterans memorialized in our National Cemeteries in Florida.

This spring, we are hosting a history harvest at the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee, where we will digitize personal primary sources and conduct oral history interviews with the loved ones of Veterans buried in our National Cemeteries. Interns will assist the team with planning the history harvest, conducting interviews, digitizing documents and artifacts, and post-history harvest processing. Interns may also assist in the construction of our interactive virtual tours and podcasts. Interns will gain professional experience in various aspects of historians’ and public historians’ responsibilities, including project management, public engagement, historical writing, oral history processing, metadata, research, and technical writing. Interns should be:

  • Enrolled and pursuing a degree in History, Public History, or an allied field at UCF.
  • Self-motivated and ready to learn new skills.
  • Computer fluent, including at a minimum Microsoft Office.
  • Able to work independently and with a team.
  • Able to problem-solve and conduct independent research.
  • Able to participate actively at in-person, weekly meetings on campus and travel off campus to conduct research and participate in events.

Limited number of spaces/internships available. Applications should be received no later than December 1, 2025 for consideration. Applications, submitted here, include a formal cover letter outlining why you wish to do this internship, what skills you have and want to acquire/improve working with UCF VLP, and where it fits into your educational and professional goals. Submit the cover letter and CV as a single PDF. Contact Dr. Amelia Lyons, amelia.lyons@ucf.edu, if you have questions. Will work with Dr. Scot French, if selected, to take for course credit.
