This is an intermediate level poetry workshop that will focus on the nature of poetry, the creative process, and the elements present in poems. We will read and discuss the work of contemporary poets, as well as writings on craft and criticism. In this entry-level course, students read literary texts to develop an understanding of authorial decisions in contemporary writing in poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction. Students will increase their knowledge of relevant writing terminology and concepts and gain insight into the emphases and specialties of the UCF creative writing program. Students will also become familiar with professional pathways including publishing and other applications of a degree in English with a specialization in creative writing. By mapping a plan for ongoing writing practice, students will also identify possible avenues to pursue writing careers. |
