Biography
K-J Mathieson, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is an accomplished animator and educator. With a rich background in concept development, 3D technology, and animation production, she has showcased her work in over 150 international and national film festivals, earning “Official Selection” recognitions at prestigious events such as the Academy Awards, BAFTA, BIFA, and Canadian Screen Award qualifiers. Before joining the UCF faculty, Mathieson served as an Associate Professor of Animation at Columbia College Chicago. During her tenure, she taught a diverse range of animation classes, from introductory to advanced thesis projects. Notably, she played a pivotal role in establishing a new BA, BFA, and Minor in Animation. Mathieson is a member of ACM SIGGRAPH, The American Film Institute (AFI), Women in Animation, and contributes her expertise as a jury member for the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, the first Academy®-qualifying children’s film festival.
