– A 21 year survivor of cancer, and now cancer-free thanks to innovative new treatment, Grishkoff is a beacon for others, communicating the power of creativity amidst difficult odds and utterly human role the arts can play in personal and collective healing. The artist uses white natural felt mixed with his own hair as a symbol of Hairy Cell Leukemia and the act of healing without living in fear.
– Brian Ransom uses sound for healing purposes. Brian Ransom performs and exhibits his sound works internationally, and lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. He teaches ceramics and sculpture at Eckerd College.

UCF Art Gallery is proud to have been invited (for the first time!) to be part of ZORA! 2016. The Encounter: Zora Neale Hurston and Baalu Girma, which proposes a fictional encounter between Hurston and Baalu Girma, the celebrated Ethiopian novelist and journalist whose untimely death in 1984 has been attributed to government agents. UCF Art Gallery will be an open forum for conversations about what these writers had in common. These curated conversations will be presented by scholars of Rollins College, UCF, Seminole College and invited speakers.

In the 1970’s, the late photographer and educator Gary Metz generated a significant body of work that was very much in the spirit of the times. Metz’s Quaking Aspen: a Lyric Complaint challenged the first 100 years of landscape photography, which had placed a major emphasis on depicting nature as sublime, heroic, and unspoiled.

DO IT! was conceived and curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist. For the University of Central Florida version of the exhibition, students and faculty in the will come together to build an exhibition from scratch over the course of two weeks, following directions from world-renowned artists including Yoko Ono, Sol Lewitt, Louise Bourgeois, and Felix Gonzalez-Torres.
