The English department offers exchange programs with the University of Surrey in Guildford, U.K. and University of Canberra in Canberra, Australia.


University of Surrey • United Kingdom

The Department of English exchange program with the University of Surrey, in Guildford, U.K. offers an opportunity to learn key skills, concepts and techniques needed for a successful career in the English field. The University of Surrey was founded in 1894.  It was known as Battersea Polytechnic Institute and located in London.  It was moved to Guildford and renamed the University of Surrey in 1966. The structure of the academic programs at the University of Surrey promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.  The programs are divided into four Faculties: Arts and Human Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Health and Medical Sciences and Management and Law, which houses the School of Management. It is currently the academic home of approximately 12,000 students.

Guildford is the county town of Surrey, England, the seat for Guildford Borough, and the administrative headquarters of the South East England region. The town is located about some 50 km (31 miles) southwest of London. Guildford is about 40 minutes by train to the south west of London, and at accessible to both Heathrow and Gatwick international airports.


University of Canberra • Australia

In this program, students from the Department of English have the opportunity to participate with the University of Canberra in Australia. This program is over to both English majors and minors and allows students to receive credit for English courses at a university where academic standards are high and courses are designed to achieve career results. The University of Canberra has approximately 12,000 students from throughout Australia and from 90 other countries around the world. Approximately 1,600 students live on the University’s 296-acre campus.

The area has mild winters and warm summers, with average temperatures of 27°C (81°F) in summer and 12.1°C (54°F) in winter. The University of Canberra is situated in Australia’s capital city, home of its Commonwealth Government, situated between the country’s two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne. Canberra is often referred to by locals as ‘the 20 minute city’ because nothing is very far away. The city is home to a population approaching 350,000.
