Digital Research Projects
Faculty members are involved in a variety of digital humanities projects and other interdisciplinary research. Both undergraduate and graduate students will find opportunities to participate in projects. See a few recent examples below.
Charles Brockden Brown Electronic Archive and Scholarly Edition
Charles Brockden Brown (1771-1810) has earned a general reputation as the early republic’s most ambitious and accomplished literary figure. The Charles Brockden Brown Electronic Archive and Scholarly Edition is dedicated to publishing his uncollected writings of Charles Brockden Brown and making them searchable in an electronic environment.
Zora Neale Hurston Digital Archive
The College of Arts and Humanities UCF’s Zora Neale Hurston Digital Archive is to create an academic web site that will provide a repository of biographical, critical, and contextual materials related to Hurston’s life and work. The site also hosts teaching resources so that both teachers and students can more fully appreciate the cultural and literary richness of Hurston’s writings.
Johnson’s Dictionary Online
This project will create an online edition of Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language (including both 1st [1755] and 4th [1773] folio print editions) with functionality comparable to modern, scholarly dictionaries. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Johnson’s Dictionary was the most comprehensive and influential English-language dictionary in the world. Our goal is to make the original text easy to use and study, providing long-term benefit to researchers, educators, and more.
