The power of the written word brought close to three hundred people to the Pegasus Ballroom in the University of Central Florida Student Union Wednesday. Students, faculty, special guests and members of the public attended the inaugural Knights Write Showcase, which featured the best work from first-year students who received support through the new Department of Writing and Rhetoric at UCF. President John Hitt was on-hand to present the Hitt Prize for Excellence in First-Year Writing to the best article published this year in the department’s peer-reviewed journal Stylus.

José Fernández, dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, joined a panel titled, “The Professors Write Back,” featuring UCF faculty members discussing their lives as writers.

The event has been featured in local news outlets. Read the complete articles, “Knights Write shows talent” from the Central Florida Future and “Inaugural Knights Write showcase features first-year students’ work” from the Orlando Sentinel
