Biography
As a highly respected music educator and conductor, Tremon currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands, Director of Athletic Bands, and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Dr. Kizer oversees UCF’s athletic band program, conducts the UCF Symphonic Band, and teaches advanced courses in music education, conducting, and mentorship for student interns. Additionally, he plays a pivotal role as the Associate Director of the UCF School of Performing Arts, where he contributes to the success of over 800 students majoring in music and theatre, supported by a faculty and staff of more than 120.
Under his leadership, the UCF Marching Knights has reached unprecedented levels of excellence, achieving the largest membership in the history of the university, with over 420 members. He has led the Marching Knights in several major events, including the American Athletic Conference Championship, the Military Bowl, PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, Gasparilla Bowl, and the AutoNation Cure Bowl. The Marching Knights has also been featured at Bands of America Competitions, the Florida Marching Band Championships, the Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom Parade, as well as in high-profile performances such as Disney’s Magical Christmas Day Parade, the British TV show Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and recently the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. The Marching Knights' artistic achievements were further recognized and featured at the CBDNA Southern Division Conference.
Tremon’s contributions extend well beyond UCF. Nationally, he is an active member of the National Band Association (NBA), serving on the Revelli Composition Contest Selection Committee, chairing the NBA IDEA Committee, serving on the NBA Research Review Board, and the Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors. He has recently contributed to a CBDNA Task Force focused on recruitment trends in collegiate band programs. On a state level, he serves on the Commissioning Committee for the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) and as the NBA Florida Chair.
As an clinician, adjudicator, and leadership consultant, Tremon has conducts clinics nationwide. He has been a featured conductor for district, regional, and state honor bands, as well as professional ensembles, including as guest conductor of the United States Army Band. His expertise also extends to summer music camps, and drum major clinics for collegiate and high school band programs.
As a passionate advocate for diverse and inclusive music, Dr. Kizer is dedicated to expanding the repertoire for both chamber and wind ensembles. He is particularly known for his research on the life and wind band works of Ulysses S. Kay, a two-time Prix de Rome winner. Dr. Kizer has presented his research and conducted workshops at major conferences, including the Midwest Band and Orchestra International Conference, the College Band Directors National Conference (CBDNA), the Southern Division CBDNA Conference, and the CBDNA Athletic Band Symposium. His insights into music education has been published and recorded in Marching Arts Education, Teaching Music, and as a consultant for Leaders Creating Leaders LLC.
Before his tenure at UCF, Tremon held faculty positions at the University of Dayton, Coffeyville College, and taught courses at the University of Central Missouri. Dr. Kizer earned his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University, a master's degree from the University of Central Missouri, and his doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Kizer is an active member of several professional organizations, including the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), National Band Association (NBA), National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), and the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA). He holds honorary memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Tau Beta Sigma. Outside of his professional life, Tremon enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with his wife and son.
