Orchestras

The University of Central Florida Orchestra program consists of two ensembles serving nearly 100 students. The program is designed to give a compelling and rigorous musical experience for string, brass, woodwind and percussion players in the university community, as well as pre-professional training for music education and performance majors.

Symphony Orchestra

The UCF Symphony Orchestra is a select, member-auditioned performing ensemble comprised of many of the university’s accomplished undergraduate and graduate string, woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians. The UCF Symphony Orchestra appears in venues throughout Central Florida , including the renowned Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, and performs a variety of literature, including traditional symphonic instrumentation, chamber orchestra, and string orchestra.

The ensemble is open to all students regardless of major. Auditions are required for orchestra membership. The ensemble rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. and presents two to three concerts each semester. Symphony Orchestra serves as a major ensemble for music majors, and members receive one hour of academic credit for each semester of successful participation.

University Orchestra

The UCF University Orchestra is an open-enrollment ensemble designed to offer continued performance opportunities for string players who wish to keep music in their lives as a recreational and aesthetic activity. Wind players and percussionists may be added on occasion but should be a member of the Concert Band to be invited. No audition is required to become a member.

Comprised of both non-music majors and music majors, the University Orchestra meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-6:20 p.m. and presents one concert each semester. Members receive one hour of academic credit for each semester of successful participation. The University Orchestra also serve as a minor ensemble for music majors.
