More than 600 handcrafted ceramic bowls were fired and custom glazed by students from the UCF School of Visual Arts and Design in support of Empty Bowls Central Florida, held on Oct. 9, 2019 at UCF.
Marlenys Rojas-Reid died September 4, 2019 in Winter Park, FL after a courageous fight against cancer. She was a loving and compassionate wife, mother, and “Mimi” to her grandchildren. Marlenys was in the process of completing a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Central Florida in Studio Art. Marlenys was committed to excellence and to initiating frank discussions, both in her art and her personal life.
There are about 115 Art in State objects on campus. These range from a variety of forms such as painting, sculpture, ceramic, to some that are outdoor. The privately donated works are in the hundreds, most of which are kept in the vault at the UCF Art Gallery, however, some are displayed around campus outside.
Tampa native and graduate from the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies at Daytona State College Clarissa Bonet ’08 returns as the featured artist for the biennial alumni photography exhibition, Urban Constructs at the Southeast Museum of Photography. Bonet completed the 2+2 B.S. in Photography program at Daytona State College and the University of Central Florida before moving to Chicago and enrolling at Columbia College.

UCF’s School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) and Center for Research and Education in Arts, Technology and Entertainment (CREATE) will host Pompeii-related arts initiatives in the months leading up to the opening of “Pompeii: The Immortal City,” an exhibit that will be at the Orlando Science Center from June 2020 to September 2020.
