All Theatre UCF BFA students (acting, musical theatre, stage management, design & technology) are required to complete a six-credit professional internship before they graduate.
This exciting capstone experience is designed to provide students with a bridge between their academic life and their professional life while deepening and strengthening their skills, experiences, marketability and networks. Students work all over the world in a wide variety of jobs including but not limited to Broadway tours, cruise ships, regional theatres, outdoor drama, theatre for youth, festivals, theme parks and more.
When do students usually complete the program?
Students are eligible to undertake their internship beginning the summer after their sophomore year.
Why is it important for students to have a professional internship before they graduate?
Theatre UCF’s Professional Internship Program empowers students to work professionally in the field before they even graduate. Students experience the process of auditioning or interviewing, negotiating contracts, traveling, strengthening self-confidence, artistry, marketing and networks all while building their resumes and forging lasting connections.
How does Theatre UCF help students successfully get placed in internships?
The Internship program asks students to procure a paying job in their specialty field that meets our requirements. Theatre UCF’s outstanding and rigorous training program means UCF students are highly regarded and sought after by employers. Theatre UCF also offers a plethora of production and audition opportunities, master classes by Broadway artists, an active and supportive alumni group and a Professional Advisory Board representing employers from theme parks, theatres, event producers and production companies. Students are not only well-prepared; they are well supported.
Why is Theatre UCF’s internship program unique compared to other schools’ programs?
Theatre UCF is deeply devoted to ensuring our graduates work in the field. We don’t just train the artist, we also train the entrepreneur. To this end, all of our students take a class called Careers in Professional Theatre, which prepares them to not just survive but to thrive in our highly competitive industry. They are then asked to extrapolate those lessons learned into hands-on, real world experiences as they seek, procure and complete their internships, which for many represents their first paying job in the field.
