Three UCF English Department faculty members are making music together as Ghost Peppers, a band creating original global fusion music in four languages and musical styles including Indian classical, South Asian Bengali music, Americana, reggae and jazz. The group includes English Department Chair James Campbell, Professor Kevin Meehan and Assistant Professor Amrita Ghosh, along with UCF alumnus and guitarist Kevin Felker.
Ghost Peppers’ debut album, No Borders, and its song “Court of Love Reggae Raga Version” have been entered for consideration in two Global Music categories for the upcoming Grammy Awards. The band’s music has recently received international attention, with coverage from media outlets including Scroll India, The Wire, and Pakistan’s Sapan News, and in the US American Kahani, Orlando Weekly and our own The Charge at UCF.
The band members were invited to become voting members of the Recording Academy following the album’s release earlier this year. The Grammy voting process is now underway, with the final nominees expected to be announced in late November or early December.
