When the sun goes down, Art Knight! shines.

On Friday, Nov. 6, the School of Visual Arts and Design will invite the public back into its studios and classrooms of the Visual Arts Building for the 5th annual Art Knight!

Student painting artwork at UCF.

This can’t-miss open house offers the community an up-close look at the artwork students create every day across an array of visual mediums at UCF. See a once-blank canvas come to life with splashes of color and creativity, admire pottery created in all shapes and sizes and watch stop-motion come to life.

The building will be decked with artwork, so have your camera ready to capture all the visual surprises you’ll encounter. Many of the students and faculty artists will be on hand to discuss their creative process. And, keep an eye out for hands-on activities for all ages like Creative Clash.

All studios will open for exploration. In addition, the UCF Art Gallery will  present the closing celebration of The Craftsman with Care: An Exhibition Honoring Larry Cooper.

Art Knight! has been growing in popularity since its inaugural year, and now welcomes more than 1,000 visitors over the course of the evening.

“Art Knight! is for everyone, from prospective students and their families to alumni and longtime arts supporters. For those considering a creative career, it’s an opportunity to imagine their future at UCF. For the broader community, it’s a chance to connect with the artists and designers shaping Central Florida’s cultural life,” said Keri Watson, who was recently appointed director of the School of Visual Arts and Design . “I’m especially excited for visitors to see the imagination, skill and dedication our students bring to their work.”

There’s more to Art Knight! than art. Knights of the Roundtable will return to set the mood with their DJ set. Food trucks from local vendors will be selling food and refreshments. Knightro roams the halls for photo opps and playful interactions.

This year, UCF Alumni is hosting its annual Book Nook event adjacent to the Visual Arts Building. The family-friendly market showcases published work from UCF alumni and offers them the chance to connect with fellow book lovers.

Get a preview of what’s to come in April at UCF Celebrates the Arts, as students from 3D Design and Advanced Design classes will be in creating the iconic pillars that adorn the staircase in Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s theme aligns with Theatre UCF’s production of Mel Brooks’ musical Young Frankenstein, paying homage to the original cast of the 1970s Gene Wilder film.

Art Knight! is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Walk-up registration will be available, but advance registration will save you time at the door.
