Theatre UCF is thrilled to announce the 2024-25 season, featuring a dynamic array of productions that include thought-provoking dramas, exhilarating musicals, and stories brimming with the intent to inspire and entertain.
The season opens with The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl, a whimsical and poignant comedy that explores the messy nature of love, loss, and the pursuit of perfection. Directed by Tara Kromer, this heartfelt production follows the unconventional journey of a Brazilian housekeeper with a penchant for laughter and a secret longing for the perfect joke.
Next, audiences are invited to experience the groundbreaking rock musical Rent by Jonathan Larson, a powerful and moving tribute to love, friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Based on Puccini’s beloved opera La Bohème and directed by Michael Jablonski, Rent follows the ups and downs of a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan’s East Village as they struggle to survive, create, and find meaning in a world marked by loss and uncertainty.
In Rhinoceros by Mary Zimmerman and directed by Chloe Edmonson, audiences will be transported to a world where conformity reigns supreme and individuality is under siege. This show explores themes of identity, resistance, and the absurdity of human behavior in the face of societal pressures, offering a timely and thought-provoking commentary on the dangers of conformity and the power of resistance.
Spring brings a fresh perspective with Imogen Says Nothing by Eugène Ionesco, a bold and imaginative exploration of gender, identity, and the search for self-expression. Directed by Christopher Neiss, this inventive play reimagines Shakespeare’s Cymbeline from the perspective of a silent servant named Imogen, who defies expectations and challenges the status quo in her quest for agency and autonomy.
Continuing the season, The Last Firefly by Naomi Iizuka offers a captivating journey into a world of myth, magic, and resilience. Directed by UCF Theatre for Young Audiences Graduate Students, this enchanting play follows the epic quest of a young boy named Boom, who embarks on a perilous adventure to rescue his mother from the clutches of a fearsome demon. The season concludes with the Spring musical taking place at UCF Celebrates the Arts 2025 at Dr. Phillips Center in Downtown Orlando, featuring the classic Fiddler on the Roof by Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock, and Sheldon Harnick. Directed by Michael Wainstein, this beloved musical masterpiece celebrates tradition, community, and the enduring power of faith and family in the face of adversity.
