The Flying Horse Big Band has released its eighth album, A Message from the Flying Horse Big Band,
The album celebrates the music of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. The band — which comprises UCF students under the direction of UCF Director of Jazz Studies Jeff Rupert — performs songs composed by Horace Silver, Benny Golson, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton and Hank Mobley. Former Jazz Messenger Michael Mossman arranged two of the tracks: “Free for All” and “Gregory is Here.”
As of January 10, the album was #3 on the NACC Top 30 Jazz Chart and #8 on the Roots Music Report Top 50 Jazz Chart.
