The National Organization for Women at UCF held its annual Love Your Body Week Oct. 13 to Oct. 17 in 2014.
Having recovered from six years of anorexia, NOW Vice President Christina Marriner is passionate about changing the conversation about body image.
“A lot of the representations of different body types in the media aren’t representative of the body types that we see around us,” the senior sociology major stated. “We’re trying to spread the idea that all bodies are good bodies, no matter their size or ability.”
The week offered events that encouraged positive body perception, from clothing swaps and yoga, to crafty self-love projects.
“It’s strange to me that we can’t bond around how much we like our bodies and appreciate them as they are,” Marriner said.
