David Morton recounts his trip to India, where he explored the country’s cinematic past and present. A passionate enthusiast for international cinema, he was presented with an extraordinary opportunity to go behind the scenes to study one of India’s oldest and internationally prestigious motion picture industries.

The Florida Historical Society recognized three CAH professors and two alumni for their work preserving and celebrating Florida’s rich history.

Associate Professor of History and Director of Public History Dr. Scot French co-authored an article, based on his research for a local museum exhibit and larger book project, in the Spring 2019 issue of Winter Park Magazine.

Two faculty members from the History Department presented digital media projects at UCF Celebrates the Arts 2019. Robert Cassanello presented the “Jones High School Digital History exhibit,” and Yovanna Pineda presented “The Middle Passage: Virtual Reality Experience.” 

Artist Kevin Haran gave a “lunch and learn” lecture highlighting his exhibition of art, Materiel: Sculptures and Works on Paper. Presented by the UCF Community Veterans History Project and the UCF Veterans Academic Resource Center, Haran’s talk focused on his influences and methods of creating art .

Fostering the success of our faculty and staff is critical to meeting the mission of the College of Arts and Humanities. This year, 17 faculty members received promotions or tenure.

Five retiring UCF College of Arts and Humanities faculty members received emeritus status in 2019: Paul Dombrowski, José Fernández, Paolo Giordano, Daniel Jones and Donald Stap.

Faculty members from across the college were honored at the 2019 Founders’ Day Honors Convocation, which recognizes UCF faculty members and students from across disciplines for their academic achievements, contributions and tenures.

The UCF History Department was featured on News 13 earlier this month for the Jones High School Museum Digital History Exhibit. Created by undergraduate students in Dr. Robert Cassanello’s Digital Museum class, the online exhibit tells the 124-year history of the first public high school for black Americans. The exhibit will be on display at UCF Celebrates the Arts on April 8, 2019.

History professor Eric Rutkow, whose newest book is receiving high praise, will give a talk about his research on the Pan-American Highway on April 2.
