Digital history project featured at UCF Celebrates the Arts

Two faculty members from the History Department presented digital media projects at UCF Celebrates the Arts 2019. Robert Cassanello presented the “Jones High School Digital History exhibit,” and Yovanna Pineda presented “The Middle Passage: Virtual Reality Experience.” 

UCF professor showcases artwork on veterans and family

Artist Kevin Haran gave a “lunch and learn” lecture highlighting his exhibition of art, Materiel: Sculptures and Works on Paper. Presented by the UCF Community Veterans History Project and the UCF Veterans Academic Resource Center, Haran’s talk focused on his influences and methods of creating art .

UCF students create digital museum for historic high school

The UCF History Department was featured on News 13 earlier this month for the Jones High School Museum Digital History Exhibit. Created by undergraduate students in Dr. Robert Cassanello’s Digital Museum class, the online exhibit tells the 124-year history of the first public high school for black Americans. The exhibit will be on display at UCF Celebrates the Arts on April 8, 2019.

Inaugural Dr. John T. Washington Lecture Series for Africana Studies

The UCF Africana Studies Program and History Department hosted the first annual Dr. John T. Washington Lecture Series at the Live Oak Event Center. A’Lelia Bundles, the great-great-granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker, spoke on the theme “Raising Our Voices: Madam C.J. Walker’s Legacy of Leadership, Activism and Education.”
