Letters of Love, Life and Longing in PRINT: A Hands-On Transcription Workshop

Trace the communication networks of early America through the lens of hand-written letters and learn about the University of Central Florida’s PRINT or People, Religion, Information Networks, and Travel project.

This free interactive workshop offers an introduction to transcribing letters from the past. Select from four themed-breakout sessions and try your hand at reading their hand.  Topics include: Movers and Quakers, Love and Marriage in Early America; Gossip and Sex in Early America; The Ties that Bind – Family Relations in Early America.

Focused on the dynamics of migration in the early modern world, PRINT is an interdisciplinary project in which faculty and students are creating a database of correspondence that will produce visualizations to illustrate connections that arose in response to religious persecution and missionary work.
