Join a talented ensemble of UCF student performers and designers for a late-night-style variety show created in collaboration with artificial intelligence. Featuring UCF undergraduates and graduates from the Theatre Department and the Texts and Technology PhD Program, supported by UCF theatre and design faculty. Based on work done as part of the “Topics in Technical Theatre” course.

This performance –  which blends elements of comedy, satire, drama, musical theatre, and multimedia –  promises to make audiences a part of the action, utilizing AI as a co-performer throughout the evening. An irreverent host will guide the audience through a whirlwind of variety sketches, including:

  • An uproarious opening monologue that sets the tone for the evening
  • A game show segment in which audience members help cobble together a sentence using AI-generated tokens
  • A hilariously grotesque “Mommy and Me” musical theatre sketch in which parents desperately try to prove the supremacy of their baby AI-bots
  • A lyrical movement performance that explores memory, both human and computer
  • A speed dating game in which three audience members must interact with an AI-driven phone chat bot
  • A live burlesque dance featuring AI-generated projections
  • An original monologue based on Valerii Briusov’s “The Wayfarer” that explores the existential nature of AI landscape we’re living in

This completely original and zero-budget performance emerged from a desire expressed by both students and faculty to better understand the creative potential of artificial intelligence within the performing arts. It is a creative exploration of how we, as humans and as artists, might navigate our complex relationship with artificial intelligence in a rapidly evolving world – all without losing our minds or our sense of humor.
