On Tuesday, March 19, the University Writing Center hosted a reading for the winners of its “Why Writing Matters” contest. Entrants addressed the topic—in 500 words or less—in the genre of their choice. The winners represent a variety of academic backgrounds.
- 1st Place: Will Henken, undeclared major in the Burnet Honors College
- 2nd Place: Sean Ironman, graduate student in the College of Arts and Humanities, pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing
- 3rd Place: Andres Gonzales, an undergraduate in the College of Arts and Humanities, majoring in Emerging Media
- 3rd Place: Richard Ries, graduate student in Interdisciplinary Studies
- Honorable Mention: Eric Patz, graduate student in Anthropology in the College of Sciences
- Honorable Mention: Leah Hargrave-Suarez, graduate student in Public Administration in the College of Health and Public Affairs, studying nonprofit management
