UCF flute player Kate Nichols recently won third prize at the Florida Flute Association’s annual College Young Artist Competition. She performed Pierre Sancan’s Sonatine for Flute and Piano on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the association’s annual convention.
Kate is a junior in the UCF Flute Studio, pursuing a degree in Music Performance under the direction of Nora Lee Garcia-Velazquez. At UCF, she has held the principal flute position in both the Wind Ensemble and the Orchestra, and she has participated as a member of the UCF Knight Winds, the UCF Flute Choir, the UCF Flute quartet, and the UCF String Ensemble. She is a student in the Burnett Honors College and a recipient of the Pegasus Gold Scholarship and a UCF Music Scholarship. She currently holds the vice president position in the Flute Club at UCF.
