UCF Celebrates the Arts, embarking upon its 8th year, brings attention to our year-round activities on campus and in the community by showcasing the work of our students and faculty. The 2022 festival will be held at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts April 5-16, 2022.
The festival Steering Committee is currently seeking proposals for innovative and collaborative arts and humanities activities from UCF faculty and staff for inclusion in the upcoming festival. The ideas for these events can be part of classroom activities; outside projects by faculty, students or alumni; or collaborative works associated with the university. Some events are already on the schedule and may be used for inspiration.
Additional consideration will be given to:
- Events that tie into scheduled events
- Interactive or immersive experiences that can happen in the lobby/public spaces
or in a room without a traditional stage set up - Interdisciplinary events that extend within or beyond the College of Arts &
Humanities - Events/exhibits that showcase the breadth of work and talents of students and
faculty from UCF - Innovative, high-quality events and happenings that are unexpected, new or out-of-
the-box - Projects that are self-funded
Times and spaces that are available:
Public lobby spaces: available before, during and after public events in the Disney
Steinmetz, or Pugh, or for the duration of the festival
Jim and Alexis Pugh Theatre (Traditional theatre with approximately 300 seats)
- Tuesday, April 5: daytime set up; public event in the evening
- May be other times, depending on event type
DeVos Family Room (large open space, can be configured with chairs or tables;
capacity varies depending on configuration)
- Availability on April 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16
Scheduled events include:
- Five performances of Shrek the Musical
- A concert by the Flying Horse Big Band with special guests
- UCF Symphony Orchestra performs Beethoven’s 6th and Oceana, an interactive
multi-media composition by Stella Sung, with a panel discussion on the themes
of ocean conservation and noise pollution - The National Young Composers Challenge and Emerging Composers Challenge
- Choir and Band invitationals and concerts
- Creative Clash, a drawing competition
- Character animation showcase
- Various other music concerts and theatre events, including opera, chamber
music, new music, musical theatre showcase, percussion ensemble and more - Visual art displays
UCF Celebrates the Arts Mission Statement
The annual UCF Celebrates the Arts festival is a showcase of artwork in the areas of visual and performing arts. In addition to the products and performances of the arts units, each year projects demonstrate the vital role of the arts in innovation, communication and fostering creativity across all disciplines. The festival provides a platform to share with Orlando and the Central Florida region the collaborations that occur among all the units at UCF and also with our community partners. UCF’s commitment to interdisciplinary activities and partnerships is well-established, and the festival celebrates these relationships as it demonstrates UCF’s strong positive impact in Central Florida and beyond.
To submit your proposal, email michael.wainstein@ucf.edu. Deadline for proposal submissions is Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. Proposals will be evaluated as they come in. We have limited space and not all proposals will be included.
Please include the following information in the email:
- The title of the event
- Event/experience description
- Which UCF and community entities are involved?
- Target audience for the event
- Preferred space(s) and times:
- Please explain any scheduling constraints or requirements
- Length of the performance/event
- Approximately how many people will be involved?
- Please explain any known technical needs, including sound, lighting, screens,
projectors, chairs, sets, costumes, on stage rehearsal times, outlets, tables,
etc. - Does it involve a partnership with other UCF areas/schools/departments or
community organizations? If so, which ones? - How is it funded, and how does it impact existing income?
- Are there any logistics that might make this event challenging?
