Kyle Schmidt (B.M.E. Trumpet) won 1st Place in the Drum Corps International Individual and Ensemble Competition.
The event was held during the DCI Grand Championships on August 7 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Schmidt was one of 37 brass soloists vying for first place. There were 16 trumpet players in the competition.
Schmidt performed the first movement of Oscar Bohme’s Concerto for Trumpet in F minor, scoring 95.5 out of 100. He is pictured in the uniform of his corps—The Boston Crusaders.
Schmidt is the second UCF trumpet student to win first place in the competition, following Sara Myers (B.M.E. 2011).
