Peter Weishar, director of the themed experience program, spoke with Spectrum News 13 about Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. The two-night, cruise-like hotel experience is billed as unlike anything Disney has created, combining live theater, role-playing and more. Guests staying at the hotel will be able to interact with characters, embark on secret missions, and influence the outcome of their adventure based on the decisions they make.
“I believe if this turns out to be something as successful or popular as Disney hopes, we’re going to see this kind of experience translated into multiple different kinds of IP [intellectual property],” says Weishar.
Storytelling will play a major role in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience, with cast members “playing roles” as members of the crew of the ship — the Halcyon, operated by Chandrila Star Line. Guests will be encouraged to wear costumes to get into character. Set pieces, such as cabins with simulated views of space and the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, will also help set the scene.
“Whenever Disney pioneers something that’s successful the whole industry is looking at them,” Weishar says. “I’m sure many of the other theme park companies are keeping a close eye on the success of Galactic Starcruiser.”
