From a solar-powered sculpture installed at Orlando City Stadium to murals in downtown Orlando, UCF art students and alumni are known for having an important visual impact on the community. UCF’s latest partnership with TD Bank is once again offering students and alumni the chance to put their artwork on display.
After featuring a mural painted by alumnus Christian Stanley ‘11 on the side of the company’s newest building in Orlando’s SODO area, TD Bank has teamed up with UCF’s School of Visual Arts and Design to select student artwork to be featured in a new UCF campus store opening this month.
“The TD Bank and UCF School of Visual Arts and Design partnership provides a unique professional development opportunity for our students,” shares Shannon Lindsey, director of the UCF Art Gallery. “This partnership demonstrates TD Bank’s support of the students as artists actively creating and contributing to visual culture by reflecting their individual and unique identities, perspectives and experiences.”
Stanley, an Orlando based muralist, graphic designer and illustrator, graduated from UCF in 2011 with a BFA in graphic design. Residents of Central Florida have long enjoyed viewing his murals in Kissimmee, East End Mark, the walls of PhoHoa, Sam Flax, Eatonville and SODO. Given his experience and proclivity for work inspired by nature, TD Bank hired him to paint a mural on the exterior of the company’s newest building. The mural, entitled “The Colors of Orlando: Prismatic” features two swans bathed in a kaleidoscope of colors as a nod to the symbol of Orlando and the city’s LGBTQ+ community.
According to the art label, “The Prismatic design features swans glowing with color, and not alone, representing the SODO community, diverse, stronger together and glowing no matter what comes its way.”
More recently, TD Bank supported a call for SVAD students to submit artwork for public display in their newest branch on campus. Students submitted artwork that visually supported TD Bank’s manifesto for its stores: “You bring out the very best in us.” A committee selected 10 pieces of artwork that best represented the concept to be featured in the branch.
