Pegasus Professor and Director of the UCF Center for Research and Education in Arts, Technology, and Entertainment (CREATE) Stella Sung was commissioned by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra to create a piece in honor of their 30th anniversary season, reports Matt Palm of the Orlando Sentinel.
Sung’s world premiere of Starbursts was performed by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for their last concert of the season in its classic series.
Using images taken by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope as inspiration, Palm describes the composition as “full of musical colors.” He continues, “Starbursts was one of those pieces I wanted to hear again as soon as it ended.”
