Patrick Murphy, Ph.D. gave two conference presentations and six lectures in China, October 13-20. Topics explored in these presentations and lectures included environmental justice, ecofeminism, ecocriticism, and their place in the literature of today.
He participated in two conferences at Beijing Language and Culture University. These two conference were “International Conference: Chinese Literature and Art in World Culture Communication” – at which he delivered a shortened version of “Bringing the Subsistence Perspective in Environmental Justice and Ecofeminism to Contemporary Literature” – and the “Cross-Cultural Forum: Nationalism and Cosmopolitanism in Literature,” at which he delivered a short version of “Community Resilience and the Cosmopolitan Role in the Environmental Challenge-Response Novels of Ghosh, Grace, and Sinha.”
At Anhui University of Science and Technology, Huainan, he delivered “Practicing Ecocriticism in American Literary and Cultural Studies.”
At Hunan University, Changsha, he delivered “Ecological Applications of Mikhail Bakhtin’s Dialogics” and the full text of “Bringing the Subsistence Perspective in Environmental Justice and Ecofeminism to Contemporary Literature,” which he also delivered at Tsinghua University, Beijing.
At Central China Normal University, Wuhan, he delivered “Subjects, Identities, Bodies, and Selves” and “An Ecofeminist Revisioning of the Masculinist Sublime.”
