History M.A. student Matt Patsis wrote a guest column in yesterday’s Orlando Sentinel entitled “The forgotten people of the forgotten war.”
“In the United States, we remember Nov. 11 as Veterans Day, when we honor those who served in all wars. Yet, our commemoration of this day is no accident. The Allies signed the armistice with Germany on Nov. 11, 1918, restoring peace in Europe. Many nations remember Nov. 11 as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, a day specifically reserved for remembrance of World War I.”
Patsis has been assisting with the Veterans Legacy Program this semester and will be a graduate teaching assistant for the History department in the spring.
