“Flamingo City,” a short story by UCF alum Giovanna Varela was recently published in Folio, a nationally recognized literary journal.
Folio, founded in 1984 and based at American University in Washington, D.C., includes poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Folio is also known for interviews with prominent writers and has published multiple works that were short-listed for the Pushcart Prize.
The journal rarely publishes work from undergraduate students, and Varela is the only undergraduate featured in the Spring 2013 issue.
Varela graduated in 2012 with a B.A. in Film – Cinema Studies and a minor in Creative Writing. She has accepted a graduate fellowship at Emerson College and will begin her studies in experimental film this fall.
