Dr. Ann Gleig Honored as Rice University Distinguished Alumna

UCF Associate Professor of Religious and Cultural Studies Dr. Ann Gleig will be honored at Rice University as a 2019 recipient of the Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality’s Distinguished Alumna Award. In addition to accepting this award, Dr. Gleig will be giving a lecture on sexual violence, transparency, and healing in American Buddhism.

Dr. Ann Gleig’s new book American Dharma: Buddhism Beyond Modernity explores the evolution of American Buddhism. By examining the cultural shifts through a modern and postmodern lens, Gleig argues that clear differences arise between “Traditional Buddhism” and “American Buddhism”. Cultural movements such as Black Lives Matter and #MeToo have also influenced the developments in American Buddhism.
