The Atkins Foundation, Inc., has awarded a grant of $3,000 to the UCF Foundation, Inc. in support of the STC-UCF Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship, an endowment established by the Orlando Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. The STC endowment is managed by the philanthropic arm of the University of Central Florida, the UCF Foundation, Inc., in coordination with Orlando STC leadership.
The check was presented on July 16th to Laura Pooser, UCF Foundation director of development, by Kelli Pharo, an Atkins communications employee and the STC Orlando Chapter Education Committee chair. During the presentation Pharo was accompanied by incoming chapter treasurer Sarah Baca and immediate past treasurer Mark Wray. This is the second gift that The Atkins Foundation has awarded to this scholarship. In 2008 a multi-year gift of $9,000 was awarded over three years, bringing the total given to $12,000.
Pooser says of the grant, “This generous gift from The Atkins Foundation further enables UCF to recruit and retain the brightest students. Their commitment to our bachelor’s and master’s degree program in Technical Communication is greatly appreciated.”
