Buddhist nuns get offerings in the morning

UCF Associate Professor of Philosophy Ann Gleig was a co-organizer of the Heartwood-Northwestern Symposium on Sexual Violence in Buddhism: Centering Survivor’s Voices at Northwestern University in Chicago in October 2024. This gathering brought together a diverse group of participants to address the sensitive subject of sexual abuse within Buddhist communities.

Gleig co-organized with Buddhist studies scholars Sarah Jacoby andAmy Paris Langenberg, and Heartwood Center founder Nancy Floy, all of whom share a vision to provide a safe and collaborative environment for survivors, scholars, monastics, and allies to engage in open dialogue on the complexities of the issue.

Gleig has recently completed a co-authored book on sexual abuse in Buddhism under contract with Yale University Press. She teaches a number of classes in the Religion and Cultural Studies program at UCF including “Sex and the Sacred” and “Buddhism.”
