UCF sophomore Derek Alexander from the Piano Studio won second prize for the 2019 Florida State Music Teacher Association’s Gray Perry Collegiate Young Artist Competitive Event in solo piano. This FSMTA statewide competition was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus in Tampa, Florida. First and second-place prizes awarded for this event were selected from a group of talented university freshman and sophomore students majoring in piano in the state of Florida.
Alexander is from Jacksonville, Florida and was accepted on a piano scholarship into the UCF School of Performing Arts in 2017. He is currently majoring in the Bachelor of Music, music performance track focusing on piano. Congratulations to Alexander for his countless hours of hard work and to his dedicated piano professor Dr. Yun-Ling Hsu for her guidance!
