Peter Weishar, director of the themed experience program, shared a tribute to the late Doug Trumbull with InPark Magazine. Trumbull’s career spanned decades and multiple industries, from cinema to visual effects to attractions. He helped lay the groundwork for the 4D theaters, gamified dark rides and immersive experiences found in theme parks and entertainment venues across the globe today.
“Douglas Trumbull was a tremendous influences,” says Weishar. “I grew to appreciate how he changed the industry and significantly raised the bar for visual effects. I still show scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey in my classes.”
Some of Trumbull’s most notable work includes Back to the Future: The Ride at the Universal Studios parks, Secrets of the Luxor Pyramid and the creation of the IMAX Ridefilm division.
