Department Archives: Writing and Rhetoric

Started in 2015, UCF Celebrates the Arts continues to grow with this year’s festival. Here, representing various artistic genres, are five key programs at the festival to check out.

Undergraduate writing and rhetoric student Lindsey Wright explores the use of audios and hashtags on TikTok and how their use reflects self-identity.

The program awarded a total of $1 million to 32 teams, several of which included CAH faculty members.

The winning projects, which received $25,000 each, were chosen for adhering to the year’s theme of strength, resolve and resilience.

Assistant professor of writing and rhetoric Sonia Arellano won the 2022 CCCC Richard Braddock Award for her article “Sexual Violences Traveling to El Norte: An Example of Quilting as Method.”

In October, four units in the UCF College of Arts and Humanities were awarded Greater Good: Humanities in Academia Grants.

Department of Writing and Rhetoric Chair Sherry Rankins-Robertson assisted in judging the competing students on how well they communicated their research to a non-specialist audience.

The honorees represent some of UCF’s best and brightest faculty who have helped elevate the university’s reputation on the national and international stages.

Martha Brenckle, writing and rhetoric professor in the College of Arts and Humanities, shares her expertise and love for writing and involvement within the Orlando arts and LGBTQ+ communities.
