SVAD alumnus Forrest Lawson ’18 memorializes Pulse tragedy through art

Last month, UCF art grad Forrest Lawson ’18 bested more than 400 artists for top honors and a $50,000 award at a regional competition for his piece 6/12/2016, a sculpture he created to memorialize the Pulse tragedy, honor its victims and communicate the emotions and responses the shooting awakened across communities.

Longtime professor Tony Major remembered for contribution to film, UCF: Major died at the age of 79 after 24 years at the university and leaves a legacy of students who have gone on to careers as actors, producers, directors and talent agents.

Fourth SVAD faculty member selected as 2019 Florida Prize in Contemporary Art finalist

Assistant professor of studio art Amer Kobaslija is a finalist in the 2019 Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, presented by the Orlando Museum of Art. The sixth annual exhibition features ten of the most progressive and exciting artists working in the state of Florida today. Additionally, one of these outstanding artists is selected to receive a significant monetary award. There will also be an opportunity for a people’s choice award, voted on by guests of the exhibit’s opening preview event.
