The Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF) Region IV Selection Team invites the UCF Conservatory Theatre production of Marisol to the regional conference in Greensboro, NC. Winners at the conference will perform at the Kennedy Center this spring.

Soprano Kimberly Saunders Randall and baritone Thomas Potter will appear in the January 24, 2009 performance of Don Giovanni with the Imperial Symphony of Lakeland on the Florida Southern College campus. Randall will sing the role of Donna Elvira and Potter will sing the role of Leporello.

Baritone Thomas Potter will sing the role of Count di Luna in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il Trovatore with the Orlando Opera Company.

Steven Chicurel has cowritten Music Theory for Musical Theatre, a textbook published by The Scarecrow Press. John Bell and Steven R. Chicurel explore how musical theatre composers use basic principles of music theory to help illuminate characters and tell stories, while helping the student understand the form, structure, and dramatic power of musical theatre repertoire.

Thomas Potter will sing Andrew Boysen’s “Symphony No. 2” with the UCF Wind Ensemble on Friday, September 26.

On Saturday October 16, 2008, NPR’s JazzSet program features the 2008 UCF-Orlando Jazz Festival with One for All. The Festival, recorded February 23, 2008, broadcasts worldwide. Locally, the program is presented by Orlando’s 90.7 WMFE-FM and on the Web at www.wmfe.org.

Sara Myers, a sophomore music education major, wins first place for High Brass at the Drum Corps Individual & Ensemble Competition held in Indianapolis, IN. The Individual & Emsemble Competition is a highly competitive event during the Drum Corps International Championships. She scored 97 points out of a possible 100.

Baritone Thomas Potter sings the role of Leporello in a fully staged version of Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni with the Imperial Symphony in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday, January 24.

At ClarinetFest in Kansas City, Keith Koons was elected president of the International Clarinet Association. He will serve from 2008 to 2010.

Baritone Thomas Potter sang the role of Baron Scarpia in a fully staged version of Puccini’s opera Tosca with the Imperial Symphony in Lakeland, Florida.
