Multiple submissions and resubmissions are also welcome.<\/p>\n<p>The editors of Stylus value work that demonstrates an inquiring mind, compelling prose, and original thought. All work submitted to\u00a0<em>Stylus<\/em>\u00a0should represent the final, revised copy. Submissions can be sent as Microsoft Office 365 file types, PDFs, or URLs. If the work exists in a physical form or lends itself to another other file type, please don&#8217;t hesitate to reach out to Editor Megan Lambert at Megan.Lambert@ucf.edu to discuss alternative submission possibilities.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"hr-2 my-4\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"text-info\">Submitting Work to\u00a0<em>Stylus<\/em><\/h2>\n<h3>Students<\/h3>\n<p>Please ask your composition instructor to submit your work to the journal. Send the final draft to your instructor as an attachment. Include your name and email address in the body of your message to your instructor. Your instructor will read over your paper, and if approved, it will be forwarded to the\u00a0<em>Stylus<\/em>\u00a0editors for consideration.\u00a0<strong>All submissions must be submitted through an instructor email. We will assume that your forwarded email signifies your approval of this work as exemplary.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"my-4\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"text-info\">Review Procedures for Publication in <em>Stylus<\/em><\/h2>\n<div>\n<h3>Review Guidelines<\/h3>\n<p>The editors of <em><span class=\"markwsyecfnye\">Stylus<\/span><\/em> value work that demonstrates an inquiring mind, compelling prose, and original thought. The following guidelines highlight some of the things we consider during the review and selection process:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A stated or implied purpose that&#8217;s worthwhile for its intended audience, and fulfills that purpose<\/li>\n<li>Inventive approaches to applications of writing concepts\/theory, subject matter, modes, presentation<\/li>\n<li>Sharing or creation of new knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Passion for the project, demonstration of learning, genuine curiosity<\/li>\n<li>Diversity in linguistic or rhetorical variations<\/li>\n<li>Intentionality where audience is concerned<\/li>\n<li>Creative risk-taking approach that is fulfilling or enjoyable to read<\/li>\n<li>Labor in scope of the project<\/li>\n<li>Useful model for ENC 1101 or ENC 1102<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We encourage all faculty nominators to work closely with students who are submitting to ensure: accuracy of information and authenticity of human labor, copyright compliance, and ethical research methods.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Primary Research<\/h4>\n<div>As per UCF&#8217;s IRB Manager, <em>Stylus<\/em> requires the following from all submissions involving research on human subjects, including social media:<\/div>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-listchain=\"__List_Chain_4\">\n<li>Proof of completed CITI Training (\u201chuman subjects protection training\u201d).<\/li>\n<li>All names, including usernames or handles on digital platforms, must be anonymized or blacked out to ensure participant privacy.<\/li>\n<li>The project entailed very minimal risk to participants.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><b>We encourage all instructors to work closely with students who are conducting primary research and may submit their work to <em>Stylus<\/em>. Doing so will help ensure research questions and presentations follow best practices. Along these lines, the following projects will not be accepted for publication in <em>Stylus<\/em>: <\/b><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>projects that could negatively impacting a subject\u2019s employability, insurability, or reputation;<\/li>\n<li>projects involving vulnerable populations (e.g., children under 18, those in prison, those with a history of poor mental health, etc.) or illegal activities (e.g. underage drinking or illegal drug use, including tobacco);<\/li>\n<li>and those projects asking any questions deemed potentially harmful to participants (e.g., questions about any kind of abuse, depression, self-harm, or the use of racial, sexual, or other kinds of slurs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Copyright<\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">If a submission contains copyrighted material that doesn&#8217;t fall under fair use, the journal will require the author to remove or replace the material; if the copyrighted material is integral to the work, the work won&#8217;t be able to be published.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Use of Generative AI<\/h4>\n<div><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Authors are allowed to use <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Gen<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AI writing tools for brainstorming, organizing, or improving readability<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of their written prose<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, but such tools must be acknowledged and documented appropriately in the authored work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> or in the Writer\u2019s Statement<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Before submitting for publication, any authors who have used generative AI as a writing tool must make every effort to ensure that the output is factually correct, and the references provided reflect the claims made. If a work is accepted for publication and the copy editing process reveals any fabricated quotes or citations, then that work\u2019s acceptance will be revoked. Due to intellectual property and sourcing concerns around AI art generators, any author who includes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> decorative<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> AI art or images in their work will be asked to remove it<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">f it <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">doesn&#8217;t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> serve an analytical<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> purpose<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> or create their own original images if accepted for publication.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3>Review Timeline<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The deadline for submissions for our next issue is Friday, January 16. <\/strong>From there, the submissions will go through a two-level review process consisting of the Student Editorial Board and the Faculty Advisory Board. Students can expect to hear back about the status of their submission(s) near the end of the Spring 2026 semester.<\/p>\n<p>Accepted submissions will then go through a copyediting and formatting process to prepare the work for publication.
