Writing and communication competencies are key to advancing into supervisory positions in the workplace<\/p>\n

In order to address deficiencies, many companies require writing-based training
\nof salaried employees; workers who already have such training could save their
\nemployers money (Writing: A Ticket to Work<\/i>, The National Commission on Writing)<\/p>\n

Many businesses and organizations employ writing and communication specialists, especially those trained to write for new media<\/p>\n

Students in Our Program<\/h2>\n

  • Take small workshop-oriented courses<\/li>\n
  • Work with nationally recognized faculty<\/li>\n
  • Develop in-depth writing and rhetorical
    \ncompetencies<\/li>\n
  • Work for and with clients on real-world
    \nwriting projects<\/li>\n
  • Develop compelling e-portfolios of
    \nwriting to share with potential employers<\/li>\n
  • Gain credentials that give them a competitive edge in the job market<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Minor in Writing and Rhetoric<\/h2>\n

    • Only one required core course<\/li>\n
    • Only prereq for all courses is ENC 1102<\/li>\n
    • Writing-intensive courses in your major can count toward the minor<\/li>\n
    • Self-directed program\u2014you choose among a variety of courses<\/li>\n
    • Appropriate for students in any major, particularly for students planning to
      \nenter writing-intensive professions (e.g., law, editing and publishing, health
      \nprofessions, public relations and marketing, new media development,
      \ncommunications management, journalism, and more)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
