These courses provide instruction in both the what and the how of writing and are designed to teach writing in a way that makes it transferable to later writing situations.\u00a0Our <a href=\"https:\/\/cah.ucf.edu\/writingrhetoric\/first-year-writing\/curriculum-and-principles\/\">first-year writing curriculum<\/a> is based on guiding principles developed from theory and research drawn from the field of Writing Studies and builds on the most recent empirical research on how students develop as writers.<\/p>\n<p>Learning to write is a complex process, both individual and social, that takes place over time with continued practice and informed guidance. Thus, to write most effectively as active citizens both inside and outside the university, students who have completed ENC1101 and ENC1102 should seek out additional State Writing Requirement classes in their majors, <a href=\"https:\/\/cah.ucf.edu\/writingrhetoric\/writing-and-rhetoric-ba\/course-descriptions-and-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upper-level ENC courses<\/a>, research projects, and extra-curricular writing opportunities. Students should also make use of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/uwc.cah.ucf.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University Writing Center<\/a> for help in working through their writing projects throughout their time at UCF.<\/p>\n<p>ENC1101 and ENC1102 are <a href=\"https:\/\/undergrad.ucf.edu\/state-writing-math-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Writing Requirement<\/a>\u00a0courses. A majority of <acronym title=\"University of Central Florida\">UCF<\/acronym>\u00a0students are required to complete both ENC1101 and ENC1102 with a grade of C- or better in order to fulfill the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.ucf.edu\/preview_program.php?catoid=14&amp;poid=6360&amp;hl=%22general+education%22&amp;returnto=search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General Education Program<\/a>.
