The writing assignments featured below were developed by the Department of Chemistry faculty Cherie Yestrebsky, Lei Zha, Erin Saitta, Emily Heider, and Tamra Legron-Rodriguez during the spring 2012 WAC Fellows Program. The Atomic Radii and Effective Nuclear Charge assignment is a low-stakes, “writing-to-learn” writing task which is a part of the “Freshman Chemistry Toolbox,” the summary of which is also linked below. The toolbox is designed for lower-level chemistry courses which enroll both chemistry majors and non-majors.<\/p>\n
The Undergraduate Research Assignment is a high-stakes, capstone-like graduation requirement assignment for all chemistry majors at UCF. While this assignment has existed in the department for some time, this is its first complete written articulation, which can be presented to the students.<\/p>\n
